Monday, 30 August 2010 12:02

The race to national, parliamentary and local government leadership positions in Tanzania is on. All contesting political parties are, of course, doing it in their own style. But, as a nation, there are lots of lessons that we must learn down the lane.
One thing we must appreciate is the fact that our sons and daughters, who were born when we decided to revert to multi-party rule in 1992, will be voting for the first time. They may be having choices that could shock us. They know what they want much better than their older generation does.

Visitors to this beautiful land might easily think our economy is very strong due to tourism and agricultural activities.
This is actually how it should have been, had it had not been for the misfortune of getting corrupt and irresponsible political leaders over the years.
All regimes since the era of Mwalimu Nyerere have been ardent in praise of this peaceful land with generous and kind people.

So, for example, in order to promote a risk taking attitude as an essential component of income generation activities among grassroots Tanzanian communities, one would fall back on IK rather than resort to academic theories of economics.
